The Ecology Club of SJR

Under the direction of Mrs. Joanne Cavera, Chair of the Science Department, and with the assistance of Development Director Jeff Fucci, former Communications Specialist for a state environmental agency, Saint Joe’s has undertaken a comprehensive effort to educate our students in becoming leaders in improving the natural environment.

The school currently recycles cans, bottles and plastics, collected each day by student volunteers from the Ecology Club. The Club has a program for commingled paper recycling as well. The program was awarded a 2008 Environmental Awareness Challenge Grant from the Bergen County Utilities Authority, and will continue to explore new ways to learn about, and steward, our precious natural resources through field research and an expanding environmental curriculum.
